Parent Involvement

As a parent participation school KOC depends on and requires the involvement of all parents. Listed below are the participative obligations all families must fulfill. Each family MUST complete ALL OBLIGATIONS required.

PARENTS OF CHILDREN IN INFANT/TODDLER PROGRAM

Quarterly Parents' Meetings

At least one parent from each family MUST attend each of the three quarterly Parents' Meeting. These meetings are announced well in advance with child care provided at KOC. The meetings offer vital information to parents and address issues of curriculum, activities, fund raising, etc., which affect the whole organization. The meetings also provide an opportunity for parents to become better acquainted. Childcare is provided at KOC during meetings.

Survival Kit Fundraiser

KOC's operating budget comes from this quarterly fundraiser. This is a big endeavor, involving a mailing to parents of all SCU resident students; and on the Saturday before final exams, the shopping, preparation and distribution of approximately 500 "Survival Kits". A member from each family is required to work on at least TWO of the three quarterly kit assemblies. If two parents attend that covers you for the year.

All infant/toddler families are expected to meet all obligations outlined above. Parents unable to meet one or more of them will be fined as follows: $75 for missing either a survival kit day, and $50 for missing a parent meeting. Fines are due prior to the first day of the next quarter.

Please meet your cooperative obligations. Parents experiencing difficulties with this should discuss their situation with the Board Secretary, or the KOC Director.

(Board members fulfill their service hours through attending board meetings and performing job duties. Therefore they are not required to participate in survival kits, with the exception of the survival kit board members who attend all three survival kit days.)

PARENTS OF CHILDREN IN PRESCHOOL PROGRAM

Each family MUST complete ALL FIVE OBLIGATIONS below.

Service Hours per Family per Quarter

Fall/Winter/Spring quarters 5 service hours per family
Summer 3 service hours per family

A large number of KOC children come from families in which both parents work outside the home. Although there is consistent need for parent help during school hours (field trips, assisting teachers in the classroom, etc.), it is possible to fulfill one's commitments outside normal working hours. You can contact your child's teacher or Director for suggestions.

As you fulfill your service commitment, log your hours on your record form in sign in/out book. Registering these hours is your responsibility.

Parents' Workdays

Workdays are scheduled once per quarter (9:00am - 12:00pm) on Saturdays for major clean-up and/or fix-up of the facility. A casual and fun event, these days are also vital for the maintenance of our facility. One family member must participate in at least TWO workdays during the academic year and ONE in the summer program (and are invited to help out on more).
