Define
your Site
First Things
First
1. Create your local root folder:
In My Documents:
- Click on File
New Folder
- Name the folder
[type the name]
2. Open the new folder
you just created and create the images folder
- Click on File
New Folder
- Name the folder images
3. Start Macromedia
Dreamweaver
- Click on Start
All
Programs Macromedia Dreamweaver
4.Define Your Site--Add
the Local Info
- Click on Dreamweaver
Site, (or Click on Manage Site
New Site)
- When you get the
site wizard, click on the Advanced Tab
- In the Advanced
tab, under Category
Click
on Local Info
- In the Site
name field, type the name of your site
- In the Local
root folder field, Browse to find the local root
folder you created.
- In the Default
images folder field, Browse to find the images
folder inside your local root folder.
- Do not enter anything
in the HTTP address field
- Accept the default
checked box for Enable cache
DreamWeaver
expects you to use a local root folder. Remember that it is very
important that you put all the files associated with your web pages,
(including your web pages), images, documents, etc. inside the
local root folder. The local root folder makes it easier to Put
your files up, or copy your files to the web server. You will have
a duplicate copy of your local root folder on the web server. |

5. Define
your site--Add the Remote Info
- Click on Remote
Info in the Category field
- In the Access field,
choose FTP
- In the FTP
Host field, type the name of the web server
- In the Host
Directory field, leave it empty unless the web
master gives you a directory path/name
- In the Login
field, type your login ID
- Type your password
in the Password field. Notice the default
is to save the password and login ID.
- Click on Use Passive
FTP if instructed by Host Server's web master
- Leave all other
check boxes empty unless instructed by the Host Server's
web master
