Create a Web Photo Album

DreamWeaver will automatically create a web photo album using Fireworks. If you do not have Fireworks, this will not work. The process involves optimizing the larger images first and storing them in a folder. The Create a Web Photo Album command will automatically create the thumbnail images and will link them to the page displaying the larger image which are also automatically created. Each of these web pages generatedc by the command will display the larger image and links them to one another so that the viewer can navigate easily through them.

I. Prepare your images for the Web

Optimize your images in Fireworks and put them all in one folder. You only need to optimize the larger image, not the thumbnails. It is recommended that the larger physical dimension for each image is about 5-7 inches, with a resolution of 72-100 ppi. The larger the physical dimensions of the image, the larger the file size and the slower the download speed for the viewer.

II. Create your PhotoAlbum

Open a web page in DreamWeaver. (It does not matter which one you have open.)

Click on CommandsarrowCreate Web Photo Album

  • Add the Photo Album Title, Subheading and other information
  • Browse to the Source Images Folder containing the optimized images.
  • Browse to the Destination Folder where all of the photo Album elements will be stored. This folder must reside in your Local Root Folder.
  • Notice you can change the Thumbnail Size by clicking on the drop down
  • It is also possible to change the number of columns that the Photo Album home page will have.
  • Select the Thumbnail file format drop down you want to use.
  • Select the Photo Format drop down you want to use
  • Click OK. DreamWeaver and Fireworks will create everything.
