Center Assistant Director Receives Grant

The Fletcher Jones Foundation has granted the Department of Education a second grant (Spring 2004) in support of the “Technology for Teacher Education” program, led by Center Program Director Pedro Hernández-Ramos, who is also Assistant Professor of Education.  This year’s grant is for the $151,360 and will support the purchase of laptop computers and PDAs for Education faculty so that they can more easily integrate technology into their classroom teaching and research activities.  In addition, the Electronic Portfolio Laboratory already installed in Bannan Hall thanks to last year’s grant ($157,000) will be enhanced with a new communications server and other resources.  A small but significant component of the grant will support collaboration between Dr. Hernández-Ramos and the principal and two teachers at Horace Mann Elementary School in downtown San Jose, relying on IP-based videoconferencing.  Finally, funds will support a technical support position dedicated to faculty and students in the Department of Education.
