Assistant Director of Public Engagement
Katie Vann is the Assistant Director of Public Engagement at the Center for Science, Technology, and Society at Santa Clara University, where she programs and coordinates a range of targeted activities intended to create synergies across the Center’s intellectual endeavors and the concerns of a variety of kindred publics. She holds a PhD in Communications from the University of California San Diego, and was a founding member of the Virtual Knowledge Studio in Amsterdam, where she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher from 2003 – 2008.  Katie’s scientific research addresses the cultural and institutional technologies of neoliberal sociality and political-economic order, with a focus on the dynamics of high-intelligence work organizations and natural research management. Her forthcoming articles on the globalization of integrated water resources management are slated to appear in Science, Technology and Human Values, and in Critical Discourse Studies.  Her prior work has appeared in the international journals Ephemera: theory and politics in organization; Social Epistemology; Psychologie & Gesellschaftskritik; Mind, Culture, and Activity; First Monday; and The Journal of the American Society of Information Science and Technology. Some of her work also appears in anthology, including: Deleuzian Intersections in Science, Technology and Anthropology; The Artists' Work Classification; New Infrastructures for Knowledge Production; and The Blackwell Cultural Economy Reader.
