Third Annual Glocalization Forum, May 2004
Jim Koch, Director of the Center, attended the 3rd Annual Glocalization Conference in Rome, which welcomed more than 50 mayors representing developed and developing cities throughout the world. Speakers highlighted the needs of children in conflict areas and stressed the importance of city-to-city efforts. The conference was launched with the “We Are the Future” concert in the Circo Massimo, hosted by Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni and music legend Quincy Jones. An international line-up of leading musicians performed at the event which was telecast live on MTV and later broadcast on May 28, 2004. The concert set in motion a global initiative to make a direct impact on the lives and future of the world’s children.
The conference included sessions on peace-building jointly moderated by mayors from the Israeli and Palestinian cities of Rishon Le'Zion and Nablus, panel discussions led by mayors from the "We Are the Future" Pilot cities, and round table meetings on the development needs of local children. Heads of state, Ministers, Municipal Leaders, Heads of important Corporations, and Participants from all sectors participated in the conference. Young people from 60 cities worldwide were also represented with members of the Glocal Youth Parliament and other youth representatives participating and presenting at the conference. |
