Things to do to Survive an Earthquake

During…

  • Stay Calm
  • If you are inside: Stand in doorway or under a desk or table
  • If you are outside: Stay away from buildings, trees, and telephone/electric lines
  • If you are on the road: Drive away from underpasses, overpasses, or bridges

After…

  • Check for injuries and provide first aid
  • Check for…
    • Gas line, sewage, or water breaks
    • Downed electric lines or shorts</>
    • Building damage and potential safety problems during aftershocks
  • Clean up any dangerous spills
  • Wear shoes
  • Turn on radio and listen for instructions from emergency services
  • Do not use the telephone except in the event of an emergency
