Preparing Your Home For an Earthquake… In your residence hall room: - Make sure heavy objects cannot fall onto your bed or desk

- If you bunk your beds, put a safety bar on the top bunk to prevent people from falling out
- Do not put your bed under the window
- If you have bookshelves, place the heaviest books on the bottom shelves
- Do not put glass containers in open cabinets
In your apartment/house: - Bolt bookcases, cabinets, and other tall furniture to the wall
- Install strong latches on cupboards to keep the contents from flying out
- Strap water heater to the wall
For a Power Outage… In your residence hall room: - Make sure you have emergency supplies available
- Do not use candles, as they can create a serious fire hazard
- Have a flashlight and extra batteries available
