The Training Site
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is part of a residential, Jesuit University of 8,300 students, both undergraduate and graduate.  Trainees will work with a variety of issues prevalent in a primarily young adult population.  Presenting problems span a range of developmental issues including identity formation, relationship problems, alcohol and drug use, as well as other clinical issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, sexual assault, and trauma.

At CAPS our mission is to support and enhance the personal, educational, and professional growth of the Santa Clara University community. We do this by providing direct psychological services as well as outreach programming, screening, and consultation.  Our services are coordinated and housed with the Cowell Health Center.

We currently have a diverse staff of licensed mental health practitioners (clinical psychologists and marriage and family therapists) working with a variety of theoretical orientations.  We mainly work within a short-term therapy model.  A limited number of clients can be seen on a longer- term basis for optimal training and professional growth opportunities.

We have both predoctoral intern and advanced practicum placements available for the 2010-2011 training year.

For our practicum trainees, we require an academic year commitment beginning in September and ending in June. Our practicum program is a member of BAPIC and follows BAPIC training and application guidelines.

Our Location:
Santa Clara University  is located in the heart of Silicon Valley and is easily accessible by car from either Hwy #101 or Hwy #280. We are located an hour south of San Francisco and an hour north of Monterrey.  There is also a Caltrain station directly across from the University.
