mhostrup@scu.edu Michelle Hostrup '07Peer AdvisorReflections on my Study Abroad Experience: Studying in Copenhagen with DIS gave me a different perspective on the European way of life and the different cultures surrounding Denmark. During the semester, I took an amazing course called ‘Communications Across Cultures.’ In this course I learned about the differences between the societies and the cultural differences in many European cities. For example, we discussed the dramatic cultural differences between the Danish people and the Turkish people, which was brought up because of Turkey’s interest in joining the European Union. I was given three weeks off during the semester to travel. Granite, the first week I spent with my Business Program, visiting company’s and firms in London and Brussels, but it was a great opportunity to see an International Business on the inside, and how they function in the European market. I even spent the day at Wimbledon (but there were no tournaments going on). The other two weeks of my break I went to the south of France to visit a high school friend, then flew to Germany to visit some family friends, met up with 2 Santa Clara friends in Prague, and finally spent my last week in Russia, first in Moscow and then three days in St. Petersburg. What can I say… I really did it all! I had the time of my life, meeting Danes, American students, traveling all over Europe, and even learned about different European cultures, business, and social interactions. |
