International Ambassadors Program
Primary Purpose
The International Ambassador Program is a volunteer peer mentor program designed specifically for Santa Clara students who have recently returned from their international education experiences. Having studied abroad, the Ambassadors embody the benefits of the international experience and have unique, real-life stories to share with students who are just embarking on their educational endeavors. The International Ambassadors are a vital component in motivating other students to take advantage of the many international opportunities Santa Clara University has to offer.
Essential Duties
The International Ambassadors represent the Study Abroad Office by speaking with SCU students who are interested in pursuing an international experience. Ambassadors can volunteer to serve on any of the following outreach efforts:
- Class Discussions: Where appropriate, the International Programs Office will set up opportunities for International Ambassadors to lead discussions or share their international experiences to a class. Ambassadors can sign up for any class outreach or arrange to do so for a specific class.
- RLC Outreach: International Ambassadors may also be panelists to share their study abroad experiences at pre-scheduled RLC Nights. Ambassadors will have the opportunity to sign up for specific dates.
- Clubs Outreach: Be part of a panel or individually share experiences in pre-scheduled club meetings.
- Study Abroad Workshop Series: The Study Abroad Workshops are a series of planning workshops for SCU students study abroad students to share their international experiences. Ambassadors will choose from a list of workshops during the Winter and Spring quarters in which to serve.
- Pre-Departure Orientation Program: Ambassadors will assist the Study Abroad Peer Advisors as panelists for specific pre-departure breakout sessions during the Pre-Departure Orientation Program in the Spring Quarter.
- Exchange Student Mentor Program: Ambassadors volunteer to greet new international exchange students and welcome them to Santa Clara University, the surrounding area, and the United States. In addition to helping with the International Club, the Ambassadors maintain contact with a new exchange student throughout their quarter at Santa Clara University.
Who Can Apply
Qualifications: (1) Juniors and Seniors with study abroad experiences, (2) good academic and disciplinary standing, (3) Leadership experience, (4) Ability to interact with diverse students.

Currently, the International Ambassadors are unpaid volunteers who are entitled to any of the following benefits:
- Given first priority hiring review for paid positions as Study Abroad Peer Advisers
- Participate in leadership develop programs
- Ability to participate in International Ambassadors team building events
- Ability to receive International Leadership Certificate
- Free T-shirt (during pre-departure orientation program)
