---What were the deciding factors in choosing your study
abroad program-location?---
I had been to England once
before and I really enjoyed it. I thought that the program would give me a
chance to experience english culture and move beyond being a tourist. I wanted
to see what life in England
was like on a day to day basis and learn about their value and culture from
people who lived there.
---What have you learned from your study abroad experiences
that have contributed to your personal, vocational, or academic growth?---
My time in London gave me a global
perspective. When I came home I realized just how different life in England is and
it really made me recognize things I take for granted when I'm at home or
school.The Internship was the most
beneficial part of my experience, I worked with people who lived in England and I
learned about the culture from someone who takes it as normal instead of from a
textbook.
---What advises, recommendations would you give to
prospective study abroad students? In retrospect, how would you prepare
differently to maximize the study abroad experience?---
I would have gone to
more events instead of staying within my SCU bubble. Its a hard balance because
I wanted to meet everyone in my flat, yet I wanted to see as much of the city
as I could.
I would also be prepared for a different academic
experience. The teachers in London
have a different teaching style, and therefore different expectations of
student's work. I found their grading to be less critical and most teachers
were more interested in discussing and learning about their students than
grading papers.
