Andrea Mares '10International Ambassador---What were the deciding factors in choosing your study abroad program-location?--- My sister lives an hour north of ---What have you learned from your study abroad experiences that have contributed to your personal, vocational, or academic growth?--- Going abroad really helped me to become more independent. I now know that I am capable of traveling by myself anywhere and have learned to adapt easily to other cultures. I have noticed I have become more mature and opened minded. I learned so much about other cultures and realized how much there is to see in the world. My Spanish improved greatly and it was so much fun to able to use it on a regular basis. I met amazing people and had the time of my life. This was an experience that I will never forget. ---What advises, recommendations would you give to prospective study abroad students? In retrospect, how would you prepare differently to maximize the study abroad experience?--- I would advise the students to look into the language of wherever they want to go because it really helps knowing the language, even if it is only a few phrases. I would also tell them to keep an open mind. I know it's hard for a lot of people to go abroad without being scared, but they should keep in mind that everyone is in the same boat and it's nice because you all adjust to the culture together.
