Casa de la Solidaridad - Ellen Klopp's Alumni Update

Casa de la Solidaridad

Alumni Update: Ellen Klopp

September 2005: Currently, I am enjoying my last here at Saint Louis University.  I am finishing up my Social Work degree in May, and as part of that I have classes to finish up, but I also have a practicum until May.  I am doing my practicum at St. Louis Association of Community Organizations (SLACO) where I am assisting community organizers, helping to start up a youth leadership program, doing some work with environmental issues, and learning the basics of a grass roots business.  I has been extremely enlightening so far and I look forward to learning a lot.

In addition to that I am also working a part time job and in the process of applying to grad schools to get my Masters in Social Work right away.

Gracias a Dios, life is treating me well these days and I feel extremely blessed.  I only hope everyone else can say the same thing.  I miss everyone, but you are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Cuidense,
Elena

Semester Studied at Casa: Spring 2004

University Name, Year Graduated: Saint Louis University, will graduate in May 2006

Current Work / Volunteer position: I am not currently working because I am taking six classes, but I am volunteering. I will be doing various things at the public St. Louis library which may include helping Spanish-speaking children with their homework and helping out with special events. I am not sure of the specifics yet, but it is something of that nature.

Update: I am back at SLU at loving it! It feels good to have my own place and be on my own again. I am fully enjoying my Social Work classes and also have succeeded in picking up an International Studies major. (Thanks to the wise guidance of fellow Casa alum Colette!)

I am surprised at how I have used my Spanish speaking abilities in my every day life, and I continue to search for ways to further use them (hence the tutoring at the library!)
