Alumni Update: Laura HershbergerSemester Studied at Casa: Spring 2005 University Name, Year Graduated: St. Louis University, I will graduate in 2007 Current Work / Volunteer position (August 2005): I have spent the summer working on the border of El Paso, TX and Juarez, Mexico as a volunteer at Annunciation House (http://www.annunciationhouse.org/), which is a house of hospitality for undocumented people. Update: I am finishing up an incredible summer working with all the awesome people at Annunciation House. This has been a great opportunity to learn about border and immigration issues as well as practice my Spanish and case worker skills! We have had some Salvadorans come through the house on their way north and it’s always VERY exciting to talk about how good pupusas are, or how pretty Morazan is, or how Volcan Izalco is a mountain of death. After seeing so many families in El Salvador with family members who have left for the United States, it is quite an experience to talk with people as they first enter the country from Mexico and Central America. I am also pretty excited to go back to St Louis for the fall, since I haven't been there since December, before I left for El Salvador. I am studying Social Work and International Studies and am minoring in Theology. Therefore, I am taking 18 credit hours so I can graduate on time and still do something cool again next summer instead of taking classes. I also plan to find a job in the STL. Some things I look forward to in the fall are: living in an apartment the Central West End with my awesome roommates, going to Columbus, Georgia for the vigil and protest against the SOA/WHINSC and see all my wonderful, fellow Casa Alumni, and hopefully going back to visit El Salvador.
