Casa de la Solidaridad

Alumni Update: Victoria Metzger

Casa Spring 2004

July 2005: I just graduated with a degree in Politics and Visual Arts from the University of San Francisco. Right now I'm delaying the onset of "real life" by working for the Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA in Western MA, where I teach girls arts and crafts, photography and a very unique activity called Colonial Living. Its nice being in an environment that welcomes reflection and builds community.

For my senior year, I worked in the Study Abroad Center at USF and pushed and prodded many 'a student to consider going to the casa, or some other "alternative" study abroad experience. I miss El Salvador intensely, and though I haven't been back since November and don't know when I'll be able to return, it continues to affect my everyday life. It has led me to look for education jobs- something I had never considered before I experienced the excitement of watching my students in Las Palmas learn and grow. I am constantly trying to duplicate the absolute fullness of life that I felt during my time at the Casa.
