Santa Clara University

International Exchange Program

Additional Application Requirements

Thank you for compeleting the online application form. Please know that your application is INCOMPLETE until we have received the following documents:

Students enrolling as an exchange student at Santa Clara University must submit the following to the International Programs Office who will process your forms:

  1. Online Exchange Program Application
  2. An official transcript from the university you are currently attending or other suitable academic records.
  3. Letter of introduction from faculty in your current field of study or from appropriate administrative staff in the International Office.
  4. F-1 Student Visa Request.  Students must verify $5,600.00 for each quarter you plan to attend during the 2010 – 2011 school year, or $16,800.00 for the year.
  5. If English is not your first language, applicants must submit TOEFL scores. (This is our preference but TOEFL scores can be waived under certain circumstances.)
  6. An essay, written in English, on the topic: Why I want to be an exchange student at Santa Clara  University and what I hope to gain through this experience (maximum 2 pages).

Please be aware that you are enrolling as an international student and will receive a student visa.  International students are required by law to be full-time students.  By this we mean that you must take a minimum of 12 academic units.  Most courses are either 4 or 5 units so that means you will need to take at least 3 classes per quarter.

As this is an exchange program- you are NOT responsible for Tuition Payments.  You will be assessed housing fees if you choose to live on-campus.  Other fees you need to be aware of:

  • Health Insurance fees.  This is mandatory for all full-time students and currently costs $1,380.00 for the Academic Year 2010 – 2011, or $460.00 per quarter.   This can be waived if your home country insurance will cover you adequately in the United States.

Once your application has been received by the International Programs Office, we will admit the students from our office.  We will then give the application to our immigration specialist for review and approval for the student visa.  It will then be returned to the International Programs Office who will mail the following to you:

  1. An acceptance letter.
  2. Health Center forms.  Our Health Center needs to have certain information about you so they can better serve you while you are here.
  3. The I-20 immigration document needed for your F-1 student visa

If you have any questions or concern regarding your admission- please contact the International Programs Office at (408) 554-6940, fax (408) 554-2340, or by e-mail - bcolyar@scu.edu.
