University Foreign Travel Policy and Protocol
Santa Clara’s mission calls for constructive engagement with the world. Towards that end, the University offers students opportunities for study, structured immersion, reflection, learning and service around the globe. The world into which the Santa Clara community ventures is a complex one presenting educational, personal development, intercultural interaction, and risk management challenges. Cross-border programs and experiences have become a professional and highly structured enterprise. To insure that programs and experiences conform to its mission, goals, and risk management requirements, the University has established the following policy to govern all international learning, service, and immersion for undergraduates:
The Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education or International Programs approve all international travel for study, immersion and service purposes involving undergraduates. Approval is based upon a variety of factors including congruence with the University’s mission, goals, risk management policies and strategic priorities. Travel involving students without this approval is not authorized. In reviewing proposed programs International Programs or the Ignatian Center consult with the International Programs Committee along with other campus units as appropriate. Once approved, International Programs and/or the Ignatian Center may provide assistance in planning, administering, and assessing international study, immersion, and service programs for undergraduates.
