Arrival at Santa Clara University

There are three major airports in the vicinity of Santa Clara University.  San Jose Mineta International Airport is about 5 minutes from campus, but most international flights coming into the area will arrive at San Francisco International Airport.  The third airport is in Oakland, which is about 40 minutes away, depending on traffic.

If you would like to be picked up at the airport upon arrival, our office needs to know the following information:

1. Airport you are arriving at
2. Airline name and flight number information
3. Date and time of arrival

Please know that we can always find someone to pick you up from the San Jose International Airport.  If you are arriving into the San Francisco or the Oakland airports we can not promise a pick up. We will make every effort to pick you up, however, you may have to rely on a shuttle service which usually costs about $25 to $30.

We are now putting together a Mentor Program and will be assigning Santa Clara students to meet you at the airport and bring you to campus.  Please fill out the Mentor Program application if you are interested in participating in this new program and meeting new people at SCU.

If you decide to come directly to campus on your own without letting us know your flight information, please stop by the International Programs Office when you get here to say hello and introduce yourself!

You should have all received information regarding the International Student Orientation with your acceptance packet and paperwork from Santa Clara. The International Student Orientation the Fall 2006 term will be on Sunday, September 17th. It will be held from 11am to 3pm in the Williman Room (Benson Memorial Center), and it is very important for you to attend.

If you are going to be living on-campus, and are planning on attending this mandatory International Student Orientation, then you may be able to move into your room early with special permission from the Housing Office at SCU. We will let them know that you will be attending the International Student Orientation and you will be allowed to move in early.

All students, once they are enrolled, are eligible for a student ID card. At Santa Clara this is called an ACCESS card.  This card will have your name and picture on it, as well as your ID number. Your ACCESS card has a variety of purposes. You can load money onto the card and use it to pay for things (from food to photocopies to laundry), or if you have a meal plan this will track your spending. This card is also like a key and gets you into your residence hall, the computer labs & a variety of other places on campus.

You will need to go by the ACCESS Card Office in the Benson Center to get your card. You can get your ACCESS card anytime after you are registered for at least one class in the system.

We hope you have a safe and enjoyable journey.  We look forward to meeting you and working with you this coming year.
