Student Life at Santa Clara

Santa Clara University is located in the Silicon Valley - California’s center for technology. The neighboring city is San Jose, and San Francisco is only around 45 minutes away (1 hour by train).  Santa Clara is about 45 minutes northeast of Santa Cruz and the Pacific Ocean.

While at Santa Clara, there are many ways to get involved in Student Life.  There are many clubs on campus, with everything from multi-cultural clubs to rock climbing.  For more information about all of the clubs at Santa Clara check out

One of our clubs is the International Club.  Exchange students are encouraged to join the club so you can meet up with Santa Clara students who have studied abroad or who are planning to go abroad in the future (or who are just interested in international affairs).  The club often puts together international dinners or group trips.  Previous trips have included a visit to Yosemite and ski trips to the Lake Tahoe area.

If you are a sports fan, you can join one of our intramural teams.  Current sports are badminton, basketball, flag football, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. You can also try one of the competitive club sports such as lacrosse, rugby or boxing.  As a student, you will also have access to Malley Fitness and Recreation Center - Santa Clara’s on-campus gym. Classes are offered through Malley in a variety of areas, from kickboxing to step-aerobics to weight-training and yoga.

The Benson Memorial Center is an important part of campus life.  Here you will find food services, the information desk, as well as many important offices (including the ACCESS Card office, Housing and Residence, the Drahmann Center, and the Post Office).  It is also a place to relax, meet with friends, or work on group projects.  The Campus Bookstore, Campus Ministry, and the Career Center are located at the Benson Center as well.  For more information (and to see webcams on campus!) check out

The International Student Services office provides information on visas, traveling outside the US while studying at Santa Clara, employment, and other services that you might require as an International Student.   They are part of the Drahmann Center which is located in the Benson Center.  For more information about the International Student Services office, check out their website at
