A Community-based Program

The SCU London Program is operated by Santa Clara in partnership with the London-based Foundation for International Education (FIE).

Fall Semester Option

The Fall program (Sept 6th, 2012 - Dec 23rd, 2012) offers a customized curriculum for Santa Clara which includes an unpaid community-based learning internship placement. Placement opportunities include private sector firms, government agencies, and non-governmental cultural and service organizations. The program schedule allows for maximum concentration on the elective classes during the first seven weeks followed by a seven week immersion in the placement accompanied by the internship supervision class and the British Life and Culture course.  NOTE: New immigration policy in the UK requires that students participating in unpaid internships are required to secure a special Tier 4 Student Visa. More information is available in the Accepted Students page.

Winter Quarter Program

The Santa Clara Winter Quarter (January - April) program provides unique opportunities for research, study, and academic travel without the internship component. The Winter curriculum consists of one required and two elective classes. In addition there will be a study tour of England and Scotland including Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, and others.  As with all study abroad programs, courses may be used to major, minor, and University core requirements. All scholarships and financial aid are available for study in London. This program is especially good for seniors who wish to study in London in the Winter quarter and return to campus in the Spring quarter before graduating in June. Participants are not required to apply for a student visa, but will be issued a special Letter to the Border Control which the student need to have upon arrival in London.

(ADVISORY: Nov. 2, 2011. Due to low enrollment, the Winter 2012 program will not include the additional study tour of the UK. Instead students will join the regular FIE Winter quarter program which includes the required British Culture and Visual Media course plus 2-3 elective courses. The last three weeks of the quarter which had originally been scheduled for the study tour will be comprised of classes and field trips throughout London. For more info, visit the FIE Winter Quarter program page: http://www.fie.org.uk/london/quarter_program/).

Spring Semester Program

The Spring semester (January - May) program is based upon the standard Fall curriculum at FIE. A basic component of the program is the community-based learning internship placement. Placement opportunities include private sector firms, government agencies, and non-governmental cultural and service organizations. The program schedule allows for maximum concentration on the elective classes during the first seven weeks followed by a seven week immersion in the placement accompanied by the internship supervision class and the capstone British Life and Culture course. NOTE: New immigration policy in the UK requires that students participating in unpaid internships are required to secure a special Tier 4 Student Visa. More information is available in the Accepted Students page.

Summer Internship Program

The London Summer Internship Program enables students to do an internship in London. Students will start their London experience in the British Life and Cultures course to introduce them to the British culture and academics. The internships will start the second week of the course for 8-10 weeks.  Internship placement opportunities include private sector firms, government agencies, and non-governmental cultural and service organizations. NOTE: New immigration policy in the UK requires that students participating in unpaid internships are required to secure a special Tier 4 Student Visa.
