International Business Minor

 

OBJECTIVE: To provide students with an understanding of the social, economic and political context of international business and the communication skills to effectively participate in a global marketplace.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MINOR REQUIREMENTS

A.  Language :
If you have previous language training, check with Modern Languages Dept. as to which level you should start

Completion of  one of the following: Arabic 23, Chinese 23, French 50/100, German 100, Italian 100, Japanese 23, Spanish 100.   Students who feel that they already have the required level of language competency must demonstrate such by completing one of the above (or a more advanced 100 or 101 level course).   Other languages do not qualify.

B. World Geography/ Demography

  • Anth 50, Poli 50, Soci 50, Hist 5, or Soci 138


C. Business Fundamentals

  • Actg 11, Busn 70, Econ 1, 2 & 3, and Mgmt 80
  • Mgmt 6, Phil 6, or Phil 112

D. Social Science in a Global Context:  

(Check current pre-requisites and permission to enroll without pre-req with individual departments and/or instructor)

  • or an approved course taken in the Casa de la Solidaridad program in El Salvador

E.      Upper Division International Business

The upper division international courses are offered infrequently and you should plan ahead in taking prerequisites. Check with individual departments for schedule & current pre-reqs

RECOMMENDED (but not required):

  1. Participation in study abroad programs; equivalent courses may fulfill requirements of minor 
  2. Completion of advanced language courses
  3. Internship related to an international business career
  4. Additional coursework in economic development, modern history and politics of selected world regions

IMPORTANT:

  • Declare the minor immediately; meet with program director for advising.
  • Equivalency of coursework taken abroad for any of the above requirements must be signed off by the chair of the appropriate department or pre-approved by the study abroad program office or by the IB minor director.
  • Keep all records of waivers and substitutions granted to you. You will need them at time of grad check.
