Resources For Parents & Guardians

Helping your student plan for a successful study abroad experience is as crucial as the actual experience. For a majority of our students, the decision to study abroad signals a deep desire for independence, maturity, growing up, and intellectual challenge. Their ability to make informed decisions is very important. Parents are great resources in this maturing process by listening, asking questions, supporting their decisions as well as knowing how to welcome the students back from their abroad experiences.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The University cannot release any information about a student to a third party without authorized written permission from the student. We encourage study abroad students to consider signing the FERPA waiver at the Bursar's and Registrar's offices (Walsh Administration Bldg) if they want their parents to have access to financial records & information. Please familiarize yourself with FERPA.
