Latin America : Argentina : Buenos Aires

This program will provide students interested in public health, health sciences, development studies, and other disciplines the opportunity to scrutinize health-related challenges in urban environments. Language Study is Spanish.

Latin America : Argentina : Buenos Aires

Through language study, coursework, and cultural immersion, students will have the opportunity to conduct academic research and explore the processes of development and globalization from a Latin American perspective. Requires 3 years of college level Spanish. Classes are taught at CIEE Study Center. There is a required independent research capstone project.

Through this program students can study a wide variety of disciplines, taught in English or Spanish at the IES Abroad Buenos Aires Center, and also have the opportunity to take selected classes at local partner universities. Areas of study offered through this program include Anthropology, Business, Film Studies, History, International Relations, Latin American Studies, Literature, Political Science, Public Health, Sociology, and Theater.

Oceania : Australia : Canberra

As Australia's capital city, Canberra is an ideal place to learn about the Australian Parliament and policy making. You'll spend two and a half to four days per week for eleven weeks on your internship, and can opt to enroll in the internship course option that includes a component that will introduce you to Australian politics and public policy. Best of all, you won't be in the program with just Americans. Australians from all around the country participate on the program as well. You'll also have access to all of the social activities of Australian National University.

Oceania : Australia : Queensland

The School for Field Studies (SFS) Tropical Rainforest Studies study abroad program in Queensland, Australia, provides exciting opportunities for students to study and work hands-on in rainforest management and restoration in the country's tropical rainforest. Student research will focus on the loss and fragmentation of once extensive rainforests and examine environmental policies related to the issue on local and national levels. SFS staff and students, in collaboration with local landholders and stakeholder organizations, focus on enhancing the condition of tropical rainforests and determining ways to regenerate and restore the rainforest on the Atherton Tablelands. Students live in cabins in a rainforest field station.

Oceania : Australia : Sydney

The Santa Clara University exchange program in Sydney allows students the opportunity to directly enroll in either of the two Sydney campuses or the Melbourne campus of the Australian Catholic University (ACU). The North Sydney campus provides coursework in business and management, business information systems and environmental sciences. The Strathfield campus focuses on arts and sciences, education, social sciences, counseling and social work, theology and philosophy, and visual arts and design. The Melbourne campus provides coursework in arts and sciences, business, education, English language, media communication, social science, theology and philosophy.

The Santa Clara Spring Quarter Sydney Internship program provides students an opportunity to spend spring quarter in one of the most exciting multicultural cities in the world. The program places students in internships based on background and work experience. The internship is then put into an academic context with coursework and an independent research project. Students may also fulfill the Santa Clara social justice component with a cultural excursion to Fitzroy Crossing in Western Australia.

Europe : Austria : Vienna

The IES Abroad Vienna Music Program is specially designed for Music students and offers a wide-ranging and academically rigorous Music curriculum coupled with unique components such as the Music Performance Workshop. Area studies courses in a variety of disciplines are also available in conjunction with the European Society & Culture program. Previous German language experience is not required to participate.

Students take courses in communications, international relations, and Belgian culture at Vesalius College, the international English-language college in Brussels. Internships with local institutions and organizations are available. One French or Dutch language course is required. Instruction is in English.

Africa : Botswana : Gabarone

Students direct enroll at the University of Botswana and take courses in social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, and engineering and technology. Students acquire community engagement experience through a week-long rural homestay, internships, and volunteer options with non-governmental organizations. Instruction is in English.

Latin America : Brazil : Rio de Janeiro

The program consists of intensive language study, direct enrollment, and field-based co-curricular activities. Students can direct enroll at Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) where they can take classes on advertising and marketing, journalism, cinema (includes television and radio), visual communication, and digital media. Intensive Portuguese language course is required prior to and during the direct enrollment of two courses at the PUC-Rio. Instruction is in Portuguese.

Study modern business and contemporary economics from a Brazilian perspective. The program includes faculty-led visits to local businesses and company headquarters. An intensive Portuguese language course is required prior to and during the direct enrollment of two courses at the Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). Instruction is in Portuguese.

This program allows students to observe through firsthand experience how health care policies in Brazil are put into practice. Students are deeply immersed in Nordeste, Brazil's northeast region and home to some of the poorest areas in the southern hemisphere.
