Get Involved on Campus

Welcome Back!

 We trust that your readjustment to life back on campus is going well. If you haven’t already felt the re-entry culture shock, you probably will at some point in your readjustment to life back in the US and Santa Clara. Coming back can be a stressful and confusing time as you cope with all the emotions of missing the study abroad experiences. But this is also the time when incredible personal growth can occur as you begin to reflect on that whole experience. As you go through the re-entry process, please know that this is a natural phase of cultural adjustment similar to when you had to adapt to studying abroad in your host country. We encourage you to get in involved on campus to keep your international experience alive and meaningful.

  • iconCOMM 186(B): Global Interpersonal Communication



    You are back! What to do with all the unique experiences you had from studying abroad? How might they be integrated into your coming years as they are now part of who you are? In this course, you will reflect, connect, and communicate your study abroad experiences focusing on interpersonal, socioeconomic, historical, and geopolitical contexts in intercultural communication competence development. You will produce web-based educational material derived from academic research and personal critical reflection for future explorers. (Prerequisite: Students who had completed a full quarter study abroad program operated by or affiliated with SCU). Register on your ecampus for COMM 186(B): Global Interpersonal Communication (Professor Cheng, Tue/Thu. 9:55-11:40am)

     Join the International Ambassadors on campus to network with other returnees and to share your study abroad experience with prospective study abroad students at pre-departure orientations, information sessions, forums, Preview Days, etc.

    January 17, 2012, 8-9 PM, Benson, CA Mission Room. Hear from alumni with diverse careers living in Asia and Central America share their advice for the international job search and living in another country. All panelists will share through Skype. Hosted by the Career Center and the Alumni Association.

  • iconLessons from Abroad Conference

    March 5, 2011, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, City College of San Francisco. The Lessons from Abroad Conference for the bay area schools will offer study abroad returnees and international students the opportunity to reflect on their recent international experiences, connect with other study abroad alumni with similar interests, network and gather resources from professionals in internationally-focused organizations, and gain important skills for continual learning and application in their future career and academic paths.

     Join the International Club on campus to practice your language skills with international students, network with former study abroad students, and serve as a mentor for incoming international exchange students from the country in which you studied.

  • iconMentor Program

     Sign up to serve as an informal American student mentor to an international exchange student from the country that you studied who will be on campus for a term.

  • iconPre-Departure Orientation Panelist

     Join other former study abroad students to help out during our annual Pre-Departure Orientation group meetings. Please sign up to be an International Ambassador and be on the look out for emails from us.

  • iconPhoto Contest

     An opportunity to share your study abroad experience with the Santa Clara community, alumni, parents, prospective students through images. Winning photos will be featured in calendars, on our website, and other University publications.  Photo Contest rules and guidelines will be emailed to International Ambassadors.
