New SCU Barcelona Program - Fall 2009/ Winter 2010

We are happy to report that Santa Clara University has successfully negotiated a custom program option in Barcelona with IES at a reduced price with the same quality student, housing, and academic services provided by IES.  First priority students (those who petitioned by Dec. 5th) who have been approved to apply to the IES Barcelona program are given first priority in switching to this exciting new and more economical custom program option. Please review the program summary below for the Fall and Winter options and let us know if you wish to be switched to it.

SCU Barcelona - Fall 2009: The SCU Barcelona Fall program uses the same course offerings as the standard IES Barcelona program. However, instead of the required five course curriculum, SCU Barcelona participants will only take 4 classes worth the normal quarter units at SCU with one of them being the required language course and an optional internship/service-learning course. Students who are qualified can also opt for a direct enrollment in the local universities through IES. In summary, the SCU Barcelona program features include:

- 4 classes including a language course (required)
- home stay housing (required)

- direct enrollment in local university (optional if eligible)

-1 internship or service-learning class (optional)
- price level I

SCU Barcelona – Winter 2010: Students studying abroad during the Fall in Barcelona may apply to extend their stay through the Winter quarter 2010 term before returning to Santa Clara for the Spring quarter. The new winter quarter option offers three classes plus an end-of-quarter travel study excursion. Class selection will include Business and Communication (depending on minimum enrollment). Housing option for the Winter quarter program is limited only to dorm or student apartments.

HOW TO SWITCH: If you want to switch to the SCU Barcelona program, you may do so by emailing studyabroad@scu.edu before February 17, 2009 to make that request.
