Past Sustainability Assessment Intern
Peter Thamer
Peter Thamer (’08) was a Sustainability Intern and co-author of the University’s Sustainability Assessment. In 2007, he primarily focused on completing the baseline assessment of SCU’s resource consumption, focusing on recording the University’s current environmental impacts and projects so we can document our progress.
“Being the Sustainability Intern is really interesting because I get to interact with a lot of people around campus,” said Thamer. “There are so many people working on the issue from so many different perspectives. This internship has opened my eyes to a lot of future career possibilities in the realm of sustainability and it has also given me great opportunities to put my environmental science degree to use.” The internship is supported by a Dean's grant from the College of Arts and Sciences, and by University Operations.
Once the first assessment was completed, Peter focused on projects to help the University meet our emissions reduction goal. Peter worked with a team of students to conduct energy audits of campus buildings and assisted with the implementation of a new display system to share information about energy used by those buildings.
