Sustainability Summer Series

Join us for one or more of the remaining sessions of the 9-part Sustainability Summer Series. Each session is 1-hour on Wednesdays throughout the summer and involves a behind-the-scenes view of a specific campus initiative. Sessions explore initiatives such as SCU’s waste stream, landscaping/water, housing & residence life, campus recreation, the Forge Garden, dining services, and renewable energy.

8/20 Campus Recreation

With Janice DeMonsi, 10-11 am 
Discover how Campus Recreation, led by Director of Campus Recreation Janice DeMonsi, is leading the way in implementing sustainability in the athletics and recreation sector. You'll learn about their zero-waste goal, Terracycle brigades, the "Powered by Sweat" program, and the pilot of the latest carbon offset initiative, the Hoofprint Challenge.

8/27 Housing

With Mako Ushihara, 12-1pm
See the sustainable features of Graham Hall and learn about Housing's waste diversion programs. Learn about Residence Life initiatives including CF Sustainability Liaisons and programs to encourage energy-saving behaviors among residents.

9/3 Food and Dining

With Charles Lewis, 10-11 am 
Learn about vegetarian and vegan dining options as well as pre- and post-consumer food waste composting and recycling. Find out more about the eco-tray program and why Dining Services by Bon Appetit is a leader regarding social, environmental, and economic implications of our food choices. New for 2014: Tour our kitchen and learn about the new food donation program!

9/10 Faces of Sustainability

With Cara Uy and Lindsey Kalkbrenner, 2-3 pm 
Learn how the culture of sustainability is growing at SCU. This conversational session will feature examples of people across the campus who are integrating sustainability into their work/life at SCU. Stories from the Leavey School of Business, Athletics, the Law School, the School of Engineering, student organizations, and more, should inspire you to find easy ways to help SCU build a more humane, just, and sustainable world.

Veggie Box Deliveries from Catalan Family Farms | All Summer

Each box includes a selection of local, organic, seasonal vegetables. You can subscribe to receive a full (10-12 items) or half (5-6 items) box once, or as often as you like.
