Sustainability Summer Series

The Sustainability Summer Series is a chance for SCU employees to learn more about SCU’s sustainability programs. Each session is 1-hour and involves a behind-the-scenes view of a specific campus initiative. Sessions will explore SCU’s waste stream, landscaping/water, housing & residence life, campus recreation, the Forge Garden, dining services, and renewable energy initiatives. Sign up online.

Campus Recreation | Wednesday 7/31, 10-11am

powered by sweat sticker on a cardio machineFind out why Campus Recreation staff were named 2013 Sustainability Champions. You'll learn about their Zero Waste goal, “powered by sweat” program, and their new carbon offset initiative.

Energy and Climate | Wednesday, 8/7 10-11am

solar panelsLearn about SCU's energy efficiency programs and our plans for reaching carbon neutrality by the end of 2015. You'll hear about our micro-grid, exterior lighting upgrade, and can get up-close-and personal to our roof-top solar. Please wear comfortable clothes and covered shoes. (Limited capacity, only 4 spaces remain)

Waste | Wednesday, 8/14, 10-11am

recycle compost and waste binsWonder where your recycling, compostables, and landfill items go? Tour the Facilities Yard and see how SCU processes 5 tons a day. Participate in a hands-on waste characterization (optional, but encouraged!). Wear covered shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Protective gear provided.

Landscaping and Water | Wednesday 8/21, 10-11am

landscapeLearn about water conservation and re-use initiatives on campus. This tour will cover everything from faucets and toilets to urinals and showers! 

We will also explore the pros and cons of recycled water.

Veggie Box Deliveries from Catalan Family Farms | All Summer

csa delivery boxes. Photo by Office of SustainabilitySign up for Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) at SCU. CSA boxes are delivered every other Tuesday to Varsi Hall. Each box includes a selection of seasonal vegetables that feeds approximately four adults. You can subscribe to receive a box every-other-week or try it only once any time during the summer.
