Sustainability News and EventsOrganic CSA SubscriptionsMonday, Apr. 15, 2013Students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to buy boxes of produce from Catalan Family Farm every other week and pick it up on campus. Boxes include fresh seasonal produce and alternating weeks of fruits, frozen soups, and homemade salsa. One box that will feed a family of four is $25. Subscribers who order 10 or more boxes only pay $22 per box. Catalan Family Farms is an organic farm in Hollister, California owned and run by Maria Catalan. Maria is one of the first Latina immigrant women to own her own farm. Maria runs the farm with her three children. She believes in organic farming and sustainable farming practices, including water conservation, composting, and using cover crops. Boxes delivered to Santa Clara will start in the beginning of March and will be delivered every other Tuesday. Boxes will include a variety of seasonal produce including (but not limited to) apples, cucumbers, kale, beans, leeks peanuts, cherries, garlic, grapes, squash, tomatoes and walnuts. This is fantastic opportunity to eat fresh, local and support California women organic farmers. Thank you to Laurie Laird and the Ignatian Center for building SCU's relationship with the Catalan family and coordinating the CSA for many years. The Office of Sustainability is happy to be a part of this campus tradition!
