Sustainability News and EventsSCU reaches out to HaitiThursday, Jan. 21, 2010Although supplies have arrived, the death toll in Haiti, where a 7.0 magnitude earthquake ravaged the country, climbs rapidly every day, as survivors struggle to find food, water, and medical assistance. More is needed for the estimated three million people who have been left with nothing. President Michael Engh, S.J., is encouraging faculty, staff, and students to donate money to help with relief efforts. A special collection for Catholic Relief Services will be taken up at all Sunday liturgies at the Mission Church on Jan. 24. Campus Ministry is also hosting an interfaith prayer service for Haiti on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 12:45 p.m. at the Mission Church. Some Santa Clara University students are also stepping in by collecting donations of their own. Members of SCU Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is raising funds for a Haitian medical group whose facilities were not affected by the earthquake and is desperately trying to treat as many injured victims as it possibly can. SCU EMS will be at Benson Center accepting donations. You can also assist with the relief efforts by making financial contributions to any of the following organizations:
