Economics professor publishes California gardening book
Associate Professor of Economics Helen Popper recently published California Native Gardening (University of California Press, 2012), an indispensable guide for starting and maintaining a garden using only flora indigenous to the Golden State. Read more about Helen and her book featured in the Santa Clara Magazine.

Office of Sustainability intern featured in athletics waste diversion video
Megan Anders, ‘14 Sustainability Intern - Athletics, is featured in a sustainability video related to waste diversion efforts within the athletics facilities and other campus buildings. Megan helped plan “Green Games” this quarter to urge athletic event attendees to be more environmentally conscious. The video and a related article were recently featured on Santa Clara University Athletics.

New Workplace Sustainability Liaison program for SCU employees
The Workplace Sustainability Liaison program empowers SCU employees to implement the University's Strategic Plan by fostering Justice and Sustainability programs among University departments and organizations. Liaisons engage their peers in sustainable behaviors in order to develop a culture of sustainability among faculty and staff at SCU. Liaisons are asked to commit two hours each month to sustainability work. Apply online to participate in the inaugural meeting in January. The first 20 Liaisons will receive a compost pail to use in their workspace.

Santa Clara University is continuing its commitment to helping those in need, and you can help. Last year, SCU brought in over 200 donations to help the Family Giving Tree fulfill the wishes of 61,000 low-income children and individuals. You can stop by the Learning Commons lobby, pick a tag off the giving tree and participate by bringing an unwrapped gift for the child, teen, elderly or homeless person mentioned on the tag. You can also choose a green or yellow card for a monetary donation. The deadline for donations is Monday, Dec. 10. Gifts can be dropped off at room 215 in the library.

Home Safe Holiday Party

Join fellow Broncos at this Holiday Party for women and children from the Home Safe Domestic Violence shelters. Volunteers are needed to serve food and supervise crafts. More information is available on the SCU Alumni website.
