Sustainability at SCU

The Center for Sustainability empowers SCU students, faculty, and staff to build a more humane, just, and sustainable world.

We host events and programs, implement initiatives, provide strategic consultation, and share stories that help the University achieve climate neutrality, practice mindful consumption, develop a culture of sustainability, & use the campus as a living laboratory.

Carbon neutrality

In 2020, we achieved carbon neutrality for the first time for emissions associated with energy use: natural gas, electricity, & fuel for SCU-owned vehicles (also known as emissions from Scopes 1 and 2), which is the 1st stage of our goal.

This expansive plan outlines Santa Clara University’s campus-wide goals and strategies for building a more humane, just, and sustainable world through 2030.

Pick Your Path
Whether you're a generalist and want to know a little bit of everything (Sustainability Guide), or don't mind being seen hugging a tree to measure its circumference (Tree Tracker), or really wish you had a reason to share how great leftovers can be (Scrape Your Plate volunteer), you will be joining a community of individuals who serve as change agents and leaders for a more sustainable SCU. We have more ways to get involved; check out our events and programs pages!
