SCU Hoofprint Challenge

Campus Recreation has begun a campaign to bring awareness to behavior changes that can contribute to reducing carbon emissions. Take the Hoofprint Challenge survey and pledge, and make a commitment to help make our campus a more sustainable one.

Wildlife Conservation Day
Wednesday, December 4th

This year marks the 2nd annual Wildlife Conservation Day. Take the pledge to respect and protect wildlife. And don’t buy any produts made from wildlife for holiday gifts! http://www.wildlifepledge.org/

December SCOOPS Meeting

Are you a member of a student club? Join other club leaders at this month’s SCOOPS (Students Collaborating and Organizing Opportunities and Projects for Sustainability) to discuss being an environmental steward locally and globally. SCOOP-able snacks are provided!

Intern with Silicon Valley Power
Monday, December 9th

Silicon Valley Power is looking to hire an intern to conduct research on Tier II Advanced Power Strips (APS) to validate their energy savings and customer acceptance. Length of the internship is January to May. Stipend provided. Email ESS@scu.edu for full position description.

Family Giving Tree Holiday Wish Drive
Monday, December 9th

It is not too late to stop by the library lobby and pick up a holiday wish card. The gifts with their tags need to be returned to LC 215 by December 9th, 2013. If you have any questions, please contact Diane Cranor or Terry Hingston.

Human Rights Day
Tuesday, December 10th

Educate yourself on current issues surrounding human rights. Be sure when buying holiday gifts that you look for products that are fair trade certified, local, and organic to support ethical and sustainable companies.

Enjoy tasty, rare foods that are on the brink of extinction in your area. Slow Food USA shares where and how you can celebrate local food and save endangered products.

Free Shipping Day
Wednesday, December 18th

When buying your holiday gifts online, take advantage of free shipping! But also remember to be a conscientious consumer. Buy local, used, fair trade, organic, energy star, etc. to support companies with ethical and sustainable practices. Check out this sustainable holiday purchasing guide for more tips.
