Faculty and Staff: Reduce waste and stay up-to-date! Choose not to receive a printed Campus Phone Directory

The Faculty & Staff phone directory is a resource compiled by the Office of Marketing and Communications. Every fall, OMC prints and distributes a spiral-bound directory for campus employees.

The University also maintains an online directory which is accessible from any Internet-enabled computer on or off campus. To use the online directory, either type a name in the SEARCH field and select "People" (see photo) or go to http://directory.scu.edu.

Arrow pointing to campus phone directory link on SCU websiteOMC is again inviting people to remove themselves from the list of people receiving the printed directory. This is completely voluntary. If you do nothing, you will continue to receive a printed copy as usual.

To opt out of receiving a print version, use the following link and instructions to remove yourself from the list.

  • Go to http://directory.scu.edu and click on "Update Your Listing" in the "Need Help?" menu on the right.
  • Enter your Groupwise ID and password to log in.
  • To REMOVE yourself from the list of people who will receive a printed directory in 2008, select the second option, "I am opting out. Do not send me a printed copy." and click the Update button in the red box.
  • Once the page has saved your data, you have successfully opted out.
  • (You can also log in to your preferences from any page in the Phonebook by clicking "Phonebook update" on the left-hand link bar.)

The deadline for opting out is September 19, 2008.
Any changes made to your preferences after this date will not go into effect for this year's distribution. You can opt in or out at any time before the 19th, and your preference setting will be preserved. If you opt out this year and do not change your preference next year, you will continue to not receive a printed directory. If you need assistance opting out, please contact Sandra Renteria at 551-6068 or srenteria@scu.edu.

IT and Dell reduce packaging waste

(on the left) Before Multipack: 16 1U servers on two pallets (on the right) With Multipack: 16 1U serviers in one pallet spaceInformation Technology is partnering with Dell Computers to reduce packaging waste related to the PC Replacement program. Dell now packs multiple products in a single box, reducing packaging size by half. Smaller packages allow Dell to increase shipping density which reduces fuel and related carbon emissions due to product transportation.

The Multipack system reduces costs, speeds up deployment time, and reduces the amount of time spent unpacking. "We replace about 600 computers every year," said Lai-San Malmquist, Manager of Applied Technology and IT Service Center. "Though we ensure the old machines are donated to local non-profits and responsibly recycled, we were looking for solutions to further green this annual process. We are very happy Dell offered us this special packaging option."
