Well this is my last blog post. I am done with my freshman year in college and it has gone by faster than I could ever imagine. Looking back on this year, I have realized the amount of things I’ve done, friends I’ve met, and stuff I’ve learned. I have definitely changed since the beginning of this year and I think I am a much better person now than I was then. I just wanted to say thank you all who have read this throughout the year and especially my mom since I think she makes up the majority of people reading it. I hope this has helped some prospective students gain a better insight as to what the first year at Santa Clara is like. Thank you. This has been a good experience and one that I know I won’t soon forget.

It is now crunch-time! I have two papers and a project due next week and then 3 finals the week after that. It is really a time to focus now. It’s been hard though since it’s such nice weather and all my friends are on summer break already. With summer right around the corner, I have to focus on getting a job and on summer lacrosse teams as well. I hope to work as a landscaper, cutting down trees for my dad, or maybe at Red Rocks Amphitheatre as a security guy. I don’t know what I am going to do yet but it should be figured out by the time I get back.

Well this weekend was crazy. My friend Garrett flew out from Denver to see Charlie Kay down in San Diego and then they both drove up on Wednesday once Charlie was done with finals. Then, my other friend Zach flew out on Thursday and they all hung out here until that Sunday. It was so cool being able to see them since I hadn’t seen Zach or Garrett in 5 months and Charlie in 2. Unfortunately, they all got to go home afterwards and I’m still here doing homework and studying. It’s weird to think that my freshman year in college is almost over. We are starting to find storage spaces and figuring out what I’m going to bring home. As much as I like it here, I’m definitely ready to see my family. My brother and sister get out next week and I’ll still be in classes.

Hey ya’ll,

Well there’s only a few weeks left in the quarter and it is really starting to pick up. It is going to be 105 degrees tomorrow and everyone is lying out in the grass between classes. It’s really cool to see all the people out instead of sitting in their dorm rooms all day. The only bad thing is that we don’t have a pool this spring because it’s being remodeled. Luckily there is plenty of places to get ice cream to cool down. We sign up for our rooms tonight for next year and it is pretty weird since last year at this time I had just decided I would go to Santa Clara.

Cinco de Mayo

Hey everyone,

Well last week was hectic. I had three midterms in one day and then finally made it to the weekend. Since it was Cinco de Mayo on Monday, there were a lot of parties on campus with mariachi music and everything. On Saturday night, Kelly and I went to downtown San Jose for dinner at P.F. Chang’s. It was awesome to see the city with her. We came back and watched Little Rascals and Hercules, which may not sound like typical college movies but they were a lot of fun. This week is going to be pretty calm I think. Tomorrow night is Mr. RLC which is this beauty pageant/ talent show for guys living in the dorms. Each dorm chooses one guy who has talent, humor, and a good personality and my RLC, Modern Perspectives, chose the one and only Pat Delves. He is a lock to win so hopefully the competition won’t go on too long before they announce his victory.

Well it’s almost May and the weather is showing it definitely. In our game on Saturday against Sonoma State, it was in the high 80s. We lost by 9 and it was pretty sad to see all the seniors realizing they were done with college lacrosse forever. On the flip side though, I have a ton of extra time in the afternoons, which is going to be nice since my classes are really hard. I have three midterms this week so that will be stressful. Tonight the Rockies play the San Francisco Giants in baseball and James, Kyle, Peter, and I are going to the game on the CalTrain. My sister, Rian Fugier, Emily Fritz, Courtney Bzdelik, and Danny D’Costa were all here over the weekend and I think they had a lot of fun. Kelly and Peter took them all to Santa Cruz on Saturday and I really think they liked the school and kids here. Luckily it was nice weather for them to be here. It was awesome seeing Kristen, my sister this weekend. She stayed with Kelly and I think they got along together well. Everyone seemed like they had a great weekend. It’s just a shame that the week has already started again.

Starting it Off Differently

Hey ya’ll,

I have decided to start this entry differently than what I have ever done before. The lacrosse team made it to playoffs for the first time in a long time when we beat Cal Poly 10-9 down in San Luis Obispo. Now we are ranked in the top 25 nationally and are playing Sonoma State this coming Saturday. Kelly got really sick this past weekend so I got to take care of her for a couple days, which may not sound like much fun but I really enjoyed it since I could help her for once since she’s so independent normally. It has been fairly cold lately so I am kinda bummed since this is far from what I signed up for. I tried to play beach volleyball with everyone but it was so windy that the sand was cutting up all our legs.

This weekend is going to be awesomely crazy. Besides my game on Saturday, my sister Kristen, my friend Rian Fugier, Peter’s sister, Emily, Danny D’Costa, and Courtney Bzdelik are all coming to visit. All of them go to Regis and some are looking to come here. I am really excited to see my sister because I haven’t seen her since Christmas. We are gonna have so much fun and I’m really excited to see them all.

Well this last weekend was awesome but really hectic. I got out of class early on Friday and got to play some beach volleyball all afternoon until lacrosse practice. Kelly and a bunch of other girls went to the Rascal Flatts concert that night so I hung out with Brennan, Kyle, James, Peter, and Trevor until she got back. On Saturday I had an early practice and then took a quick nap and drove down to Santa Cruz with Peter, Brennan, Trevor, and Jake. We were stuck in traffic on the way down there but when we got there, we played some beach volleyball with a ton of people in front of the boardwalk and then jumped in the ocean for a little bit. We went to the boardwalk for lunch and then started to head back. Little did we know that the highway was closed because of a motorcycle accident. We were stuck in traffic for 3 hours! As bas as it sounds, it was actually kinda fun. We made some friends with all the people we were next to, picked up some license plates on the side of the road, and did a Chinese Fire Drill where everyone gets out runs around the car and gets in other seats. We made a bunch of people laugh with that. On Sunday, I had a game up in Davis. We won 5-3 but it was int eh low 90s by game time so I don’t think that I have ever sweat more than I did. That night I had mass with Kelly and that was the end to a really fast weekend. This week should be kinda difficult since I have quizzes and tests coming up soon so I have to start studying soon.

Well this weekend is done and the second week of the quarter is on its way. This weekend was incredibly fast. I went up to Reno with the lacrosse team to play University of Nevada. We won 16-5 but it was absolutely freezing the whole time. I had always assumed that Reno was in the desert but I did not think it was in the mountains with such a high elevation. My mom came out this weekend to see a Bruce Springsteen concert and then came to my game with our friends Bob and Kathy Crawford. It was really nice seeing all of them, especially my mom. After not seeing her in a long time, even though it was short is was great seeing her.

Happy April Fool’s Day! I have been a victim of a big prank. Kyle and Kelly decided to put about 7 alarm clocks hidden in my room and set them for different times of the night. I ended up not having any sleep at all but it was a good prank so I laughed it off. My classes are all really exciting this quarter. I am taking Communications 2 and Political Science 25 which are both really cool and I can’t wait to see how they turn out. My other two classes are Formal Logic and Finite Math. Those two won’t be too bad but I am taking those for requirements even though they’ll be interesting. I have 3 more weeks of lacrosse I think. We play University of Nevada at Reno on Saturday. My mom is coming in to visit me this weekend too. I can’t wait to see her again since I saw my dad and aunt this past week in Florida. Ok I got practice. I’ll write soon.

Spring Quarter

Hey everyone. Well spring quarter has officially started. My spring break was pretty fun but kind of uneventful. In Florida, we beat Central Florida but lost to Florida and Florida State. It was pretty chilly the whole time so I didn’t even get a good tan in. On Wednesday night after the FSU game we drove all night from Tallahassee to Orlando. As bad as it sounds, it was actually a lot of fun. Hanging out with the guys on the team on that whole bus ride was pretty enjoyable and then hanging out at the airport early in the morning was fun. On Thursday, I spent the night in the dorms before I flew out on Friday to San Diego. It was really weird because no one else was here so I had practically the whole campus to myself. I flew down to San Diego to see my friend Charlie at U.S.D. with Peter Fritz. We were there the whole weekend and I got to meet all his buddies down there. While we were down there, we went to Coronado Island and Mission Beach. It was a lot of fun and a good spring break overall.

Hey well finals are completely over and now I am on Spring Break! I had two finals this week that went pretty well. For Spring Break, I am going to Florida with the lacrosse team. We’re playing Florida State, U. of Central Florida, and U. of Florida. They’re all pretty good but we have a solid chance of winning. My dad is flying down to see me play and we’ll get to see my aunt Dale while we’re down there. I’m really excited. I fly back on Thursday and then fly to San Diego to see my friend Charlie Kay who goes to school down there. It’ll be a lot of fun to see him and some other people who are down there. Overall, I think this Spring Break will be a great one to start college off with. I can’t wait!

St. Patrick's Day

Hey y’all. Sorry I haven’t written in a while. I’ve been pretty busy since it’s dead week. We’ve had a lot of work to do. I went to a concert this week at the HP Pavillion. It was Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood and it was a lot of fun. I tried to get into the country music atmosphere, so I busted out my cowboy boots and a Canadian tuxedo (jeans and a denim shirt). We had horrible seats but that made the concert much more fun I think. Yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day so everyone was walking around campus wearing green. I attached some pictures of all my friends who were dressed up. Now we’re getting ready for the NCAA basketball tournament. Some of my friends are pretty into it, so we’ll see how that works out. My friend Kyle Casey has been helping me study for our math final tomorrow so he is really cool.

Dead-ly Week

Hey everyone.

Well it’s already week 10 and finals are already coming up. This quarter has completely flown by. This past weekend, Eric Johnson’s girlfriend Viv was visiting from Villanova. She was really cool and could actually keep Eric in line, which was very surprising. Yesterday, I went down to Santa Cruz and up the famed Highway 1 with Kelly. It was easily the most scenic drive I have ever seen. The road bends up the whole coast and is only a few yards from the ocean at times. I attached some pictures of the drive. We played Stanford last Saturday and lost 9-8 in the last 2 minutes so that was a big heartbreaker but we play San Jose State this weekend and then go to Florida to play so it should be a nice change. Tomorrow night I am going to the Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood concert with Kaylie and Kelly so that will be a lot of fun. I gotta get back to studying so I’ll talk to ya’ll later in the week.

Hola!

Sorry it’s been so long but this weekend was pretty hectic. We won both of our games this weekend but on Friday night I twisted my knee in the fourth quarter and probably tore part of my meniscus. I have to get MRIs and see doctors all week. I’m not excited for it but I’m still walking so that’s a good sign. Housing applications opened this week and I am applying to live in Dunne again with James. Current students can also request what rooms they want to live in so hopefully I’ll be neighbors with everyone I’ve been hanging out with next year. They had an internship fair last week for freshmen and sophomores with some big companies and it got me thinking about what I am going to do this summer. I am currently applying for an internship at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer but if I don’t get that, I’ll hopefully be able to work on some campaigns for the local candidates. I’m sorry I haven’t been taking too many pictures recently. I keep forgetting my camera in my room. I attached a picture of me and Eric after one of our games and I also attached one of Kelly, Eric, and me at the beach one night.

Hey everyone,

This coming weekend is gonna be awesome. I can’t wait. We play Cal Berkeley on Friday night under the lights, which will just be fantastic since we’ll have so many, fans out. Then on Saturday I am going out to dinner with Kelly, Eric Johnson, and his girlfriend, Viv, who’s visiting from Villanova over her spring break. We play Gonzaga on Saturday which should be another easy win so this weekend is looking to be fantastic. The weather here has been absolutely gorgeous. I am now sleeping with a fan on my bed every night to stop the warm weather a little. Since it’s the eighth week in the quarter, my teachers are starting to ease up and let us prepare for our upcoming final papers and tests. I am actually a lot more nervous this quarter than I was last quarter because my classes are so hard. Okay I’m gonna go outside and lay in Mission Gardens. I’ll write soon.

Bone Thugs Concert

What’s up guys,

Last night was awesome. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony came here to play at the Leavey Center with Girl Talk and Jupiter Rising opening for them. I got to work backstage with the bands and set-up and take down of the stage. It was a really cool experience but I ended up cleaning until 3 in the morning so I was pretty tired this morning. It’s been raining all week, which has been kind of a bummer but I am definitely ready for this weekend to come. It’ll be really hectic so we’ll see. I am already getting stressed out. Talk to you soon!

Parents' Weekend

Hey everyone,

Sorry it’s been a while but things have been crazy. We had parents’ weekend a couple days ago and it was fantastic! I loved seeing my parents and they got to meet everyone here so it was a great time. We all went out to dinner a couple times and they got to see me play a couple times. We lost to Texas A&M on Saturday but it was a good game and we had a huge crowd. On Sunday we played Saint Mary’s College and beat them pretty badly then we got to have a big barbeque with all the parents and some friends. It has been a great time. Ok talk to you soon!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hey everyone,

Well Happy Valentine’s Day! It has been fairly obvious this week that love is in the air. There are candy-grams, flower deliveries, and couples holding hands all over campus. It is probably even more obvious being that it has been 70 degrees and cloudless the whole time so everyone is outside. On Tuesday, I fell asleep doing homework in Mission Gardens and was woken up a couple times by a certain girl who won’t be named this time but each time I woke up, I thought I was in heaven. There were palm trees shooting up into the crystal blue sky, birds flying quietly high above me, and her next to me laughing. Ironically, back home my old high school got a snow day and Denver is buried in 6 inches of snow. As much as I miss the snow, I can’t help feeling that I am in a better spot right now. This weekend is parents’ weekend and mine are flying out for two of my lacrosse games and to see everyone here. I’m getting really excited for that because I haven’t seen them in over a month and a half. Ok I gotta run to Ethnic Studies class. I’ll write soon.

Midterms

Hey everyone,

Sorry it’s been so long. I easily had the busiest and hardest week yet last week. I had practice every night and then had a mid-term, two papers, a quiz, and a presentation to prepare for. Luckily I got everything done and made it to the weekend. On Friday night I went to dinner at Santana Row with Kelly Nightengale, Eric Johnson, and Emily Entress. We went to Pizza Antica and were going to just go across the street for some ice cream but decided to drive down to Santa Cruz to get desert there and to hang out on the beach. It was easily the most phone I’ve had this quarter.

The next morning I had a lacrosse scrimmage against Notre Dame de Naimur, a small Division II school just north of here. We lost 19-6 but I started so that was pretty cool. I was actually really nervous the whole time and the freezing rain didn’t help much. That night I hung out with Kelly again as well as Kaylie Rossi and a bunch of kids from Swig Hall. On Sunday, James and I had everyone in our room to watch the Super Bowl, which was a lot of fun even though I was rooting for the Patriots. Sunday night I just worked on some homework and went to Mass.

It’s finally starting to get warm here again so I am really excited to wear shorts again. This week is a little easier than the last one but still pretty hard since I have two mid-terms to study for and then this weekend we play our first game against Sonoma State, who is ranked 14th in the nation for club teams. It’ll be pretty tough but I think we could definitely pull off an upset. James and Kyle Casey are going to Las Vegas this weekend for a Frisbee tournament that looks pretty fun but I will be pretty lonely all weekend. I’m a little excited to have the room to myself though. It will be a pretty mellow weekend for me since I have that game so I need to focus on that and then I’ll probably work ahead on some homework and play a little beach volleyball.

Winter Weather and Work

Hey everyone. Sorry it’s been so long since my last entry but I have been so busy. It’s been so crazy. I haven’t had time to relax at all. Classes are going well but next week should be pretty tough. I have 2 mid-terms, a quiz, three papers, and a presentation. To top it off, I leave this weekend for Gilroy for a lacrosse retreat. We have 8 field practices in two days and film sessions in between all of it. After this week is over, I think I am going to have too much free time since all this stuff will be done. It’s been so nice being back here and getting into the swing of things again but I am definitely missing home and everyone back there.

The weather these two weeks has been surprisingly bad. It has been raining and blowing crazily. Apparently this is the only time of the year that the weather is bad which had better be true because I didn’t sign up for cloudy days. Ok gotta run. I’ll write again soon.

Charlie's Visit

Hey guys!

Well I think I just had one of the fastest weekends ever. One of my best friends from home, Charlie Kay, flew out and hung out with us this weekend. It was so much fun. We went down to Santana Row on Friday for dinner with everyone and then came back and watched a couple movies. Then on Saturday, we watched football and yesterday we played some awesome sand pit volleyball. Not gonna lie, it looked like something out of Top Gun. It was so much fun. I had lacrosse practice all weekend which was pretty tough but I think I’m starting to get to know the guys really well and I’m getting back into running shape. Now I have to go because I have plenty of homework and sleep to catch up on. See ya.

First Week of Classes

Hey guys!

Well I’m back at school finally. Break was so much fun but I am very glad to be back here now. I am taking four classes again this quarter which are Calculus, Intro to US Politics, Intro to Ethics, and Intro to Ethnic Studies. They all seem pretty interesting so I’m excited to get this quarter started. I also started lacrosse on Monday and we’ve been conditioning a lot trying to get in shape for the coming season. It’s going to be so much fun. The last important development so far is that it has actually been kinda gloomy and chilly. I wasn’t really expecting that but apparently there’s only about two weeks of bad weather a year so I guess I can get through. I’ll talk to ya’ll soon. Yeah I said ya’ll Kelly.

Christmas Break!

Hey everyone!

I’m sorry I haven’t posted anything recently. I was in the mountains for most of this break so I didn’t have access to a computer. My break has been fantastic! Brennan Alvarez, Evan Yates, and Marina Gilmore flew out in the first week to come skiing with Peter Fritz, Jessica Waller, Trevor Brown, Kelly Nightengale, and me. It was a blast seeing everyone outside of school. We stayed in my cabin in Winter Park and skied for about four days I think. I had Christmas down in Denver with all my family, which was a good time. It’s been nice seeing my family since I won’t be home until June. I also got to see a bunch of my high school friends too. I went back up and skied with Zach Fenoglio, Dena Caniglio, Scott Krieger, and Nick Geraci and then I was up for a week between Christmas and New Year’s. Scott and Nick came back up during that week and so did Kelly Nightengale and her dad and sister. Sadly, the day they were going to go back down, there were 70 mph winds and white out conditions so they stayed with us for two more days. It was one of the best parts of my break. My little brother brought up two friends and we went sledding all day on Monday and then ice skated that afternoon. This Christmas break was one of the best ones I could ask for but now I’m getting really excited to get back to Cali and see everyone there. Talk to ya’ll soon!

1st Week of Christmas Break

Hey well here is my first blog of Christmas break. It is so great being home in Colorado now. We get a month off and I am planning on using as many of those days to go skiing. It has been snowing really hard here so it’s been weird trying to adjust to it. I feel like I left summer in Santa Clara, skipped fall, and just came straight to winter here in Denver. Most of my friends from high school get home next week so this one has been pretty quiet. But, Brennan Alvarez, Evan Yates, and Trevor Brown, some guys from Dunne Hall, are coming in this week to go ski so it’ll be awesome. Brennan’s a soccer player from Redlands, Evan’s a crew guy from San Francisco, and Trevor is the funniest man in Santa Clara; he’s from Aspen. It’ll be really funny to see some of these guys on skis but it’ll be a lot of fun for them to come hang out with all the Denver kids we have from Santa Clara.

Dead Week

Hey guys, sorry I haven’t really written this week. It’s been really busy. Its dead week here because all our classes are ending and everyone is starting to study for their finals. I had the lacrosse/ rugby semi-formal last night, which was a lot of fun. We all got dressed up and danced over at the lacrosse house. It was great being able to hang out with all the lacrosse guys in a more formal situation. It was even better since I had an awesome date in Aubree Murguia. She is really cool so I had fantastic company the whole time.

Since everyone’s kinda studying this week, it’s been very quiet so a lot of us have just watched football all day today and then the soccer team has a playoff game tonight that everyone is going to. We play Notre Dame and probably should win so I’m excited. We’re all gonna go to Santana Row tonight after for dinner and a movie. A bunch of guys like Kyle Casey, James McWilliams, Evan Yates, and Peter Fritz are gonna go with me and some girls like Kelly Nightengale and Kaylie Rossi. It’s gonna be a blast. Ok gotta run. It’s really cold tonight so I have to find all my warm clothes!

Thanksgiving Break

Hey well needless to say, this break is much needed. I was so happy to just relax and see family. For Thanksgiving, my cousins Dustin and Chelsea and my aunts and uncles came down for dinner. My neighborhood has a tradition of playing roller hockey too so I also got to see all of my neighbors and my good friend Danny Burke. We grew up together and he’s at school in Loyola Baltimore so we don’t get to see each other that much. I’ve also been able to see everyone from my high school who came back for break. It was awesome being able to see kids I haven’t seen all quarter and to talk with them about their adventures at college.

During break I was also able to go skiing with my dad and brother. It finally snowed here on Wednesday and it’s been freezing ever since. I was not expecting such a big climate change but coming from Santa Clara to the mountains here was almost a 60 degree difference. I was so surprised. I also got to work on some of my final projects for a couple of my classes so that I could relax later this week. This break was awesome. Ok talk to ya’ll soon.

Thanksgiving

So I’m finally home for Thanksgiving! It’s really weird being home though because I feel like I am just visiting and do not really live here anymore. I really like being home though. I can catch up on my sleep and relax this whole week. It’s actually been kinda funny because this whole quarter I have been trying to keep in touch with my friends from back home and now that I am home I’m trying to talk to everyone from back school. I’m excited because some of my friends from Santa Clara live near here so on Wednesday we’re all going to hang out. It’ll be interesting to see how they mingle but I think it will turn out great.

I can’t believe how much is left in this quarter. After Thanksgiving, we have a week of classes and then finals. I have plenty of homework and projects to get done before the end of the quarter and it is just hard to imagine that the end of the quarter is next week.

Home and Ski Season

I got to go home this weekend! It was so great being able to see my family and all of our family friends. It was kind of weird being home though. It was a very surreal experience. I guess I had assumed that life at my home would not go on if I wasn’t there to witness it. As great as it was to be home, it was almost like I didn’t live there anymore. It was the strangest feeling. Even though it was a really short trip, I definitely needed it and luckily I get to go back next week for Thanksgiving break.

I am also getting really excited for ski season. I’ve been skiing since I was two and my family has a mountain house up near Winter Park Ski Resort so we usually go up almost every weekend in the winter. Being in California with all the warm weather and palm trees has made me more restless for the fluffy powder of the mountains in the winter. I am pretty excited because it sounds like a lot of kids from my dorm are going to come out and ski with the other Colorado kids and me over Christmas break. It will be pretty interesting to see how all my friends from Santa Clara and my friends from high school will interact. I think it will be cool to see all the networks of friends interacting when we all get home for break.

So now that mid-terms are finally over, the end of the quarter is starting to come fast. I can’t believe that I only have 2 more weeks until Thanksgiving break and then two more until Christmas break. This quarter has flown by. I have started signing up for my classes next quarter so there isn’t even time for me to just relax. I was pleasantly surprised with my classes this quarter. I was expecting them to be lectures with just a mid-term and a final but they have been so much better. I got done with an ethics debate earlier today concerning offensive speech and the First Amendment. It was really interesting and that is what all of my classes have been like. They are much more hands-on and student-involved. I love it.

This weekend I am flying up to Spokane, Washington to visit my girlfriend at Gonzaga University. It is our 4 year anniversary and I wanted to fly up and surprise her. Luckily, I’ll already be up there by the time she can read this. Surprisingly, it is very easy to get to the airport from campus. There is a free shuttle at the Cal Train Station specifically for transportation to the airport. I got a great deal on tickets by flying Southwest so this trip is a great break from campus. I also recently got asked to the two sorority semi-formals. The semi-formals here are like a high school homecoming dance but much more casual. Aubree Murguia who is a really good friend of mine asked me to Alpha Phi’s dance. We are going with a bunch of other kids from our floor in Dunne so it’ll be a lot of fun. Kaylie Rossi asked me to the Delta Gamma dance which is going to be a blast too. She went to my high school and I love the dances so it’s going to be an awesome time.

Halloween

Halloween was awesome! There were so many crazy and creative costumes. Although there were obviously some parties, there was actually plenty of other stuff to do. I’m not that into Halloween because I hate being scared so it’s always been kind of eerie. But this year, I thought I would try to get into it as much as possible. There were scary movies being played in one of the dorms that everyone was invited to and in the basement of Dunne, my dorm, they had a haunted house called the Dunne-geon. Luckily, I was able to find other people who aren’t that into getting scared so we just hung out in the dorms and then went to the Bronco, our late-night snack bar with Mozzarella sticks and smoothies. A bunch of kids from my hallway dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland. I was the Mad Hatter and my roommate, James, was the March Hare. Our friend, Aubree, was Alice and our other friend, Jill, was the Queen of Hearts. We also had a big card and the King of Hearts as well as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum but I didn’t get any pictures of them.

I’m really excited for this weekend because I get to see my mom. She’s coming into town and we’re going to go out to dinner and then there is a John Mayer concert on Saturday night. The truth is that she is not that big of a fan of John Mayer but Bruce Springsteen might make a guest appearance and my mom loves him. Hopefully, all of it will work out. The only tough part about this concert is that I have a tournament the next morning and we are meeting up at 6 to drive up to Cal-Berkeley. I’m really excited for it. We are playing four teams who are all in our conference so it will be like a lot of pre-season games. Ok gotta run. Talk to ya’ll soon.

S'mores and Cotton Candy

Well it’s week 6 now and just as fun. But that feeling of settling in is definitely starting to hit. I now feel like I’ll be here for four years. The first few weeks were definitely more like summer camp but now that midterms have hit and people are starting to get into their respective groups, it’s a lot more restful. This weekend I went back down to Santa Cruz but this time there wasn’t any surfing. We had a bonfire on the beach and made s’mores. It was actually kinda weird having a fire when I wasn’t camping in the mountains. Well today we have a carnival outside of Benson Student Center so that’ll definitely be a nice way for people to relax after midterms. Ok, I’m going to eat some cotton candy. Talk soon.

Midterms...ugh!

So this week has flown by and I have no idea why. Midterms are finally over so that is a huge relief. It is like a weight has been lifted off the whole campus. Everyone is going out of town this weekend too. I might go up to San Francisco to hang out since there is a bus that we can take from Santa Clara called the Bronco Bus. It is pretty cool. The Frisbee and Crew teams are all going to tournaments this weekend too. They have started doing campus tours for freshmen, which is actually really weird to see since I was in that same position last year. It is great to see them from another perspective. Lacrosse is going great. We have been doing practice every other day and we have a big tournament next weekend at Cal Berkeley. I’m really excited for that. Ok gotta run.

The Beach

This weekend was awesome! I finally made it to the beach and it was definitely worth the wait. A guy on our floor, Christian, is a big surfer and he brought a car up here from Newport Harbor so he was really happy to drive us all there. Ironically, he was asked to be on the MTV show set in Newport but declined so this is his little famous shout out instead. The water was pretty cold but I guess after being from Colorado, anything where you don’t have to wear a jacket is really warm. My girlfriend also came down this weekend and it was so cool for everyone to finally meet her. She became such good friends with some of the people on my floor that I think she’ll probably come down and visit just to hang out with them. I think she became really good friends with some of the people from my floor like Evan, Kyle, Aubree, and Jill. We all had such a good weekend hanging out with each other. I hope she can come down soon.

Long Distance Relationships

So I’m really excited for this weekend because my girlfriend, Katy Kenealy, is coming down to visit from Gonzaga University. We have been dating for four years throughout all of high school. I was fairly apprehensive about a long-distance relationship especially after hearing from other people who have tried it before me. However, despite the difficulties we’ve been going through, we are making it through fairly well. She always finds a way to make me smile so I know that everything will be fine. I am also really excited for her to meet all the people here that I’ve been hanging out with and for all of the people here to meet the girl that I always talk about. Ok gotta go. Talk to ya’ll soon.

Assassin and Soccer

Hey so it’s been a pretty boring week this week. Mid-terms are starting for a lot of people but I haven’t really had that many test this week so I’ve just been hanging out with some kids in my classes. We are doing a lot of dorm stuff lately too. There is a group called Community Council, which is something like the Student Council for our dorms. There is also an actual student council and we had elections this week. Our dorm has started a game called assassins this weekend and it should be really fun. It’s a game where each player has a squirt gun and is assigned to “assassinate” a person they are assigned to. For example, if I am assigned to a girl from the fifth floor, then I have to go up and secretly squirt her with the gun. However, there will also be someone trying to shoot me at the same time. There is also a nationally televised soccer game tonight so it should be a lot of fun. There is a ton of school spirit here despite not having a football team. I love it.

Getting Hectic

10/2/07
Hey,
Well today I had my first lax practice and it was super intense! I was so surprised that these guys were all so good for being on a club team. They were all really cool too. We all went to dinner and they're all fun to talk to. I‘m really excited for this season. Now I’m starting to juggle everything and it’s getting incredibly hectic. Between classes, lacrosse, homework, intramurals, clubs, and meeting new people, I am completely booked but I am enjoying incredibly. After sitting around for the longest summer of my life from May 20 to September 15, it is great being busy. Ok I gotta run. Go figure!

Giants and Lacrosse

9/26/07

Hey ya’ll,

Just thought I’d catch you up on some things going on around here. Last night I went to the Giants’ baseball game in downtown San Fran which was awesome. There were so many kids from Santa Clara there that we took up two sections. The train ride down was kinda long but I got to meet a ton of new kids especially when the Stanford kids got on too. Since it was college night we all got discounted tickets but I’m sure they made up for those prices by having an $8 dollar hot dog. I put on some pictures of all the kids I was with. My roommate, James McWilliams is the blonde one, the guy next to him is Peter Fritz who went to high school with James and me, and the two girls on the end are Kelly and Alex who live in Graham which is the Alpha RLC. In one of the pictures there is a huge Coke bottle and baseball glove. I had no idea but there is actually a slide going down the bottle. It was really cool. I had never been to San Fran before so this was definitely a good opening experience,

9/27/07

I had my first lacrosse meeting last night and I’m so excited to get started on this season. I got recruited a little to play for some small schools but I am so glad that I chose SCU right now because, although it is a club program, the guys are all really cool and treat it like a Division 1 team. We start our practices next week and cuts will be this winter so I’m just ready to meet all the new guys. Most of them seemed like they had not played that much before high school but they seem really dedicated. Then, after the meeting, the captains invited us over to their house and we got to know everyone more and the girl’s lax team came over so we met them too. It was a great night overall.

Third Blog

Well now I’ve started on my second week of classes and I feel like I’m actually starting to get into a rhythm between classes and meals and working out and stuff. It’s been a lot of fun. Last night I went to the 9 o’clock mass in the Mission Church with practically the rest of the school and it was really cool. I haven’t been that religious but the community here is so close and welcoming that I think I might get more involved. I went to the soccer game over the weekend against UCLA and it was fantastic. I was kind of apprehensive about Santa Clara at first because they don’t have a football team so I figured that there wouldn’t be any school spirit but I was completely wrong. The game was crazy and we won so our soccer team is still ranked within the top 10 in the country. There is so much stuff to do here that I find myself wanting to get involved in everything with no time to do any of it. But I like being this busy. Ok, gotta run. Talk to you guys soon.

Hey hey.

So our dorm has so many activities to do while we are here. I went to this Sky High place with most of our RLC on Wenesday. It was basically a warehouse full of trampolines and foam pits. It was so cool. They also had a midnight breakfast that night which was fantastic. We have a picnic for our floor and we’ll probably play some beach volleyball too. I’m excited for the weekend to finally be here. On wednesday I was supposed to go to my ethics class for the first time but I had an old schedule so I ended up taking Elementary Chinese for an hour. I recommend picking up an updated schedule before you start class. If any of you reading my blog have any questions, you are more than welcome to e-mail me at sjenkins@scu.edu, or post on my facebook wall, or call me at (720) 272-5175.

Today is my first Friday of the school year and this week has been incredibly hectic. My name is Spencer Jenkins and I’m from Denver, Colorado. I’m rooming with a friend of mine from my high school in the Modern Perspectives RLC in the Dunne dorm. Besides adjusting to the new freedom of college, I still find myself having so many things to do. I went to the clubs fair this week and signed up for a lot of different ones that I’ve never tried before. I’m starting lacrosse next week and I’ve been meeting different kids from the team as well as so many kids in my dorm and in other dorms too. I have a facebook profile so I got to meet some kids before I even got here. I highly recommend it. I attached some pictures of the best dorm room in Dunne which also happens to be mine. Enjoy!
