Gmail is a web based email application. Keeping all email on a Google server will allow easy access, secure storage, provide built in backup, and there is no need to delete any email. Google Calendar is used keep you organized and can be synchronized with mobile devices. You can view your calendar from your desk, on the road, at home and on your mobile devices.
