Immersion Trips

Immersion programs are off-campus, educational, service-based opportunities in which students travel to and serve in a community different from their own. Students learn about themselves and the world by working alongside other students, faculty, staff, and local people.

These mutually enriching programs provide students with the opportunity to experience different cultures and diverse socioeconomic environments and to witness firsthand the challenges faced by marginalized communities. Students learn to ask and difficult questions: How did this happen? Why did it happen? And hopefully, what can I do to change it?

Immersion trips honor the Jesuit vision of educating the whole person, and students often discover as much about themselves and their own country as the place that they visit. As part of the immersion, reflection on the day’s activities enriches the experience.


Throughout the year, SCU offers several immersion trips that students and faculty can become involved in, including:
