Major in Environmental Studies

Interdisciplinary companion major that emphasizes policy, law, economics, communication, and ethics as a means of achieving environmental sustainability.

As an environmental studies major at Santa Clara University, you will have the opportunity to study abroad, conduct research, and participate in internships throughout the Bay Area. The major is offered as a companion major for students who are also pursuing a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree in programs such as anthropology, communication, economics, English, or political science. This Environmental Studies degree offers the opportunity for students to choose a concentration in Environmental Economics, Environmental Policy and Law, and Sustainable Development, which provides more in-depth training in one dimension of this broad field.

Environmental Studies programs are enriched by quarterly colloquia on environmental themes, featuring presentations by journalists, politicians, businesspeople, scientists, and other scholars.
