Explore Western, Eastern, and world history from antiquity to the present.

As a history major at Santa Clara University, you can study a wide array of courses that cover Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas from antiquity to the present. Courses focus on all aspects of the human condition, including politics, cultural and intellectual history, diplomacy and war, economic life, technology and science, society, women, the family, human sexuality, religion, and the experiences of ethnic groups and minorities.

Major Requirements

  • Four lower division courses in History
  • Ten upper division courses in History

All majors choose an emphasis from one of the five geographical areas (Africa/Middle East, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and United States) or develop a thematic emphasis and will take at least four upper division classes in the emphasis. Other upper division courses will include classes in both historical interpretation and one senior capstone.
