Major in Religious Studies

Explore three branches of religious thought: scripture and traditions; theology, ethics, and spirituality; and religion and society.

As a religious studies major at Santa Clara University, you will take courses in three areas: scripture and traditions; theology, ethics, and spirituality; and religion and society. You may also use courses in other departments—history, classics, and philosophy for example—to fashion your major. The religious studies major and minor draw on an unusually large set of undergraduate offerings designed to provide breadth in terms of the variety of religions and approaches and depth in terms of the history and theology of the Catholic tradition. There are many opportunities to work closely with department faculty or be involved in social justice and local community projects.
