Santa Clara's reputation for great soccer is well earned. In 2001, the women's soccer team, led by National Player of the Year Aly Wagner brought Santa Clara University its first women's national championship, defeating soccer powerhouse North Carolina, winner of 16 of the past 20 national titles. In 2002, the team narrowly lost the championship game in double overtime.		 spacer spacer
