Community-Based Learning
A sociology major, Michelle Del Real believes in the importance of community service programs at Santa Clara. "Everyone should give back to the community," she says. Del Real earned class credit by working at the Pedro Arrupe, S.J. Center for Community-Based Learning, where she and other SCU students tutored children from area schools. The experience of helping others is invaluable because "it changes your outlook and you learn compassion." Through community service, she says, students receive as much as they give.
