Updates on SCU’s New Learning Commons and Library
Progress on the new Learning Commons and Library on the SCU campus became apparent—particularly when workers began putting the steel into place in January 2007, creating the metallic skeleton of the 194,000-square-foot structure.
Community members can keep up with the latest developments by reading a construction blog hosted by Ron Danielson, SCU’s chief information officer and vice provost for information services.
The library will eventually house the entire information services division. But the scope of the new building will extend well beyond. “I think the new Learning Commons and Library is a very significant attempt by the University to provide the kinds of learning resources that our students need in the 21st century to keep up with current trends in how people work together to learn, rather than working independently,” Danielson says.
But like the former Orradre Library, it will also be accessible to the community. “People can come in and make use of the resources that we have available here in the building, and it will be a much more enjoyable space for them to do so,” he says.
