New CPA Director Welcomes Community

ShakespeareButch Coyne, the new director of the Center of Performing Arts, cannot choose just one campus performance to highlight in the upcoming months. “Where do I start? There are so many exciting and diverse performances at the Center of Performing Arts. Whether you prefer dance, music or theatre; from the avant-garde to the well-known, the CPA has it all,” he responds enthusiastically.

Welcoming the community to partake in the rich offerings on campus will be one of his main goals as he settles in to his new role, says Coyne, who served as marketing director for the San Jose Repertory Theatre for nearly two decades, starting in the mid-1980s.

“I will be reaching out to Silicon Valley residents to invite them to participate in the dynamic, innovative arts on campus. The arts are a well-kept secret at Santa Clara University and our goal is to entice the community to become involved arts patrons,” he says.

Don’t miss the free Music at Noon series every Wednesday during the school year in the Recital Hall, he advises. Or $3 will buy a ticket for the April 4 performance of “Don’t Count Your Chickens Until They Cry Wolf,” a show sure to delight children of all ages. Or catch the Spring Dance Festival April 18-19 in Fess Parker Studio Theatre, the choir concert on May 15 in the Mission, the jazz ensemble performance in the Recital Hall May 30, or Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” from May 29 through June 6 in the Louis B. Mayer Theatre.

The list goes on, so visit the Center of Performing Arts website at www.scu.edu/cpa or call 554-4015.
