The Blog system in Commonspot includes an option to display links to a variety of social media platforms. This option has been updated to include a sharing link for each post in the default blog theme list view, and enhanced sharing options in the blog post detail view. The shared content will include the blog post title and summary text, and if your blog post includes an image, that will be included in the content shared with Facebook.

The shared content will include the blog post title and summary text, and if your blog post includes an image, that will be included in the content shared with Facebook.
Look for the "Show Share This link" option in the blog element's configuration form.
In addition to this setting, it's recommended to set any blog page to use the Custom Title option in the Commonspot page's custom properties "Settings" form. If checked, the page will substitute the blog post title for the default page title, which will improve the shared content detail as well as search engine optimization.

If you've deleted a page in Commonspot, it can't be restored within the system. However, you may be able to recover content from Google's cached content. Prepend "cache:" to the url of your page in Google Search, and it will display the last cached version, if one is available.

The rotating image slideshow element used in level 1 and level 3 home pages now allows for the option of adding alternate text for each image. Including relevant keywords in the image description can help to improve visibility for search engines.

In some cases you won't see updates applied to a sitemap reflected right away in your site navigation. The sitemap's XML file will only be refreshed when you change the sitemap structure, so if you're updating a link label or url, deleting a link, or otherwise not modifying the site outline the XML file won't be updated. The workaround for that is to indent/outdent any link to refresh the file. Following that change, you'll want to clear the subsite cache on cms, and - following the next replication - clear the www subsite cache using the ClearCache utility.

We're applying OS patches to the cms and www servers on Thursday, 9/19 starting at 10am. Commonspot authoring will be offline for about 15 minutes starting at 10, and replication will be suspended until the www servers are patched. We anticipate that replication will be back on scheduled by 11am.

Following up on yesterday's note about missing uploaded files in replication - we have a fix for that in place as of yesterday afternoon. If you notice any 'file not found' errors on www for recently uploaded files, please let us know.

The Commonspot 8 upgrade was installed on cms and the www servers on Tuesday morning, and with a couple of exceptions, things appear to be operating normally. Please let us know if you run into any Commonspot authoring or page display problems.

A new display option is available for the Flickr Slideshow Element, which will display the Flickr images as a gallery with sharing options and image descriptions. Select the "gallery" display mode in the Flickr Slideshow element, which you'll find in the Content Well element category.
