Site Search

This element displays a search form that can be used to submit a keyword search to SCU's Google Custom Search index, and limit search results to a specific SCU site.

Content Well Site Search Element

The element accepts four parameters, although only one is required:

  • inurl (required) - this is the SCU site url that will limit search results. As an example, the parameter:
    inurl=www.scu.edu/news
    will limit results to pages within the News site.
  • searchPage- by default, the search results will display below the search form, but you can have the form submit to a different page.  That's useful if you're adding this element to a subsite template - the "searchPage" destination would need to have the search element included in the content well.
    example: searchPage=/webpublishing/search.cfm
  • showOptions- by default, the seach form will include "search this site/search scu.edu" options below the form - you can hide this by setting "showOptions=no".
  • width - the default setting for displaying search results will use the center and right column width.  this can be set to "small", for search result pages that include right column content, or "large", for pages with both the left and right columns hidden.

In this example, the following parameters have been applied:

inurl=www.scu.edu/webpublishing
searchPage=/webpublishing/search.cfm
showOptions=yes
width=small

/webpublishing only all scu.edu

Right Column Search Element

This element can be used to include a search form in the right column, which would be well-suited for inclusion in a Subsite template - that would allow the search form to be displayed on any page in your site. This version of the search element requires two parameters: the "inurl" setting for the subsite to be searched, and the "searchPage" url for the page that will display search results.

See the default and customized versions of the search form in the right column of this page for examples - the custom version uses the following settings:

  • inurl = /webpublishing
  • searchPage = /webpublishing/search.cfm
  • display = feature (set this to "" if you want to remove the feature formatting)
  • color = red  (options are: red, gold, beige, gray, none - default is "gray")
  • intro = Search this Web site. (deffault is "")
  • label = Web Publishing (default is "Search this site")

Right Column Search Element

The Right Column search element offers some optional settings as well; "display=feature" will apply the rounded-corner and background color formatting to the search form, "color" will set the feature display color, "label=[text]" will replace the "Search this site" label with your text, and "intro=[text]" will include a block of text above the search form.  The example below is using custom settings:
