Commonspot 5 allows you to control the display of the layout, editing, and new element icons and links. When in the Author View, you'll notice three new icons to the left of the Commonspot menu icons at the top of the page.

Left to right, the new icons are "Show Container Tools", "Show Element Tools", and "Show New Element Links".  You can click these icons to toggle the display of the layout table or container and element icons and the "insert new element" links on and off for the page.  If you're typically just going to be editing existing page content, then you could turn off the display of the container and new element links.  Here are some examples of how the page display would change with different display options selected.

Here we have a rich text block with all three controls displayed:

In this example, the "Show Container Tools" display is turned off:

And in this example, both "Show Container" and "Show New Element Link" are turned off, leaving only the Element editing icon.
