Beyond the Classroom
Santa Clara students and professional artists from all over the Bay Area exhibit their work in the Gallery of the Department of Art and Art History.
Linked to the academic year, our exhibitions begin in the fall with the work of professional artists. Each quarter an artist from a variety of media is invited to exhibit their work in the winter and spring quarters as well. In addition, each year the Department of Art and Art History collaborates with the de Saisset Museum to bring together some of the finest bay area artists for the annual Artist Lecture Series held at the de Saisset Museum.
In the spring, we show the work of students, most of whom are finishing B.A. degrees in Studio Art. Graduating seniors in the studio art program participate in a senior show where they learn the process of installation and presentation of their senior exhibit. Students work directly with an exhibition advisor to design and edit their exhibit, write up an artist statement, and host an opening reception in a professional manner.
In addition, all students of all levels participate in the Annual Student Art Juried Exhibition. Even non-majors are encouraged to submit their art work and have it judged by a professional jury for awards given out at the end of the year.
