Research

Colonial Andean visual culture: pre-contact and colonial Indigineous Andean textiles, concepts of landscape, territory, and claim to land in visual culture of the Andes; contrast, confluence, and things in between in colonial encounter.

I am completing a dissertation on visual culture of the colonial Andes, with a focus on Indigenous Andean textiles and their association with the land, land use, land claim, and territory during the tumultuous 16th and 17th centuries. Aspects of my research examine visual culture in relation to gender, ideas of landscape, and ideologies of power in both pre-contact and colonial periods in the Andes region of South America.
