Roya Ebtehaj was born and raised in Iran and currently lives and works in the Bay Area, CA. She holds an MFA degree from San Jose State University and a BA from Azad Art University of Tehran.
Starting in Fall 2019, Ebtehaj is a post-MFA fellow at Santa Clara University in the Department of Art and Art History and will be teaching Digital Imaging and Introduction to 3D Animation & Modeling. She taught new media art at SJSU from 2017-2019 and has exhibited her work in different venues such as Root Division in SF, B4b4lab Gallery in Oakland, Maker Faire in San Mateo, SOPO Café in San Jose and Black Gallery, Gallery 8 and Gallery 5 at SJSU.
Ebtehaj incorporates a wide range of cutting-edge technologies including 3D/2D design, VR/AR, net art, video, animation, photography and physical installations in order to bring her ideas to life. The raw materials of her artwork include personal narratives and the contextualization of sociopolitical and cultural issues.
